Salem Lake 30K
ThursdaySep 27,2007
Last weekend, I treked down to Winston-Salem with the rest of the fartlekers for the Salem Lake 30K. Together, we ran 18.6 miles, the furthest I have ever run. Our previous long run was 17 miles with many long, lingering water breaks.
17 Miles Down
SaturdaySep 01,2007
WooHoo! I ran 17 miles this morning, which is the longest distance I have ever run. Although my legs started getting tired at the end, the run felt a lot easier than our 14 mile one. With 2 weeks to go until our 30K, I finally feed like I can do it. Yep, I'm going to be a real marathoner soon.
Being a Real Runner
FridayAug 24,2007
Kay and I braved the 91 degree weather to go running with the nice folks at Omega Sports yesterday. Or, rather, to go running way behind them. Since I regularly run with a bunch of people at my pace, I am not used to feeling slow. Kay and I started off at our usual pace and within 5 minutes we couldn't even see the rest of the group. By the time we got back to the store, all of the other runners had gone home.
Using Imagecache and CCK Imagefield to Add an Image in Drupal
TuesdayAug 21,2007
Figuring out how to get Drupal's imagecache module to work with CCK's imagefield can about as fun as a trip to the dentist. Although I found a lot of articles analyzing the benefits of using Image vs. CCK imagefield, I could not find one source with clear instructions on how to implement imagefield with imagecache. So, here's my stab at an explanation of how to get imagecache to work with imagefield.
Javascript Blogroll Randomizer
WednesdayAug 15,2007
Eric uses Blogger and wanted to have a random list of 10 blogs from his blogroll display each time someone visited his blog. Since Blogger doesn't let its members upload PHP files, I used the following Javascript to create a random blog listing for him. The code is a slightly modified version of what I found here.
TarWheels BikeFest Rocks
SaturdayAug 11,2007
I biked 62 miles as part of the fantastic TarWheels BikeFest Rural Heritage Tour today. Sixty-two miles is a metric century. I am really excited to have biked into triple digits.
Visiting Dallas and the Awesome DFW Rental Car Terminal
ThursdayAug 09,2007
I just got back from Dallas, where I watched Sarah, a friend from 7th grade, get married. It was a nice, small service officiated by a judge. It was great to catch up with Sarah's family and to meet Sarah's husband and her friends from the Peace Corps and law school.
Kulla-Mader Award for Craziness
SaturdayAug 04,2007
After running 14 miles at 5:30 a.m. yesterday with Crystal, I spent the rest of my day assured that I had won Friday's Kulla-Mader Award for Craziness. I was mistaken. My achievement is minor in comparison to that of my parents who finally made it off of the Inca Trail yesterday. Here is a brief excerpt of their email to announce to our friends and family that they are alive, but not necessarily well:
